Mr & Mrs Carter // A Fall Wedding at The Ranch On Beaver Creek

by Rebekah · Leave a Comment

This beautiful wedding at The Ranch on Beaver Creek was the definition of Oregon fall! For most of the afternoon, we went from cloudy skies to sunshine to pouring rain and back around again. We even got a few good claps of thunder! But right before the ceremony, the skies cleared. The sun poke its head through, and we didn’t have a drop of rain the rest of the day! We lucked out on sunshine last fall for their engagement session too!

One thing we *have* to talk about is the first look that didn’t go quite how Colton probably imagined it! A few months ago, Emily emailed me with an idea. The best man would dress up and take Emily’s place in the first look! What made it even more perfect is that he would wear Colton’s Mom’s wedding dress! The plan went off without a hitch, and I think it’s safe to say Colton was very surprised. This was my first time photographing a fun first look like this, but I gotta say…I’m a fan.

Colton & Emily’s day was the perfect way to close out my 2020 wedding season. As we all know, it’s been one crazy year, but I’ve still been so blessed by my incredible clients. From weddings to elopements and everything in between, it really has been a good year. I already can’t wait for 2021 and all the amazing weddings to come!!

To the new Mr & Mrs Carter: I’m so happy for you two! Marriage is such a wonderful adventure with your best friend. I know you two are going to have such fun! Thank you again for trusting me to tell your story. Big hugs!!

Pro tip: When you’re planning "getting ready" t Pro tip: When you’re planning "getting ready" time before your engagement session (scheduling your hair, makeup, etc.) please give yourself a lot more time than you think you'll need. Make sure to account for things like traffic, getting lost and parking, so you can prevent unnecessary stress, arrive a few minutes early to your session and be ready to start on time. We’re only able to shoot when light is still in the sky, so we’ll want to take advantage of every minute we have together before the sun goes down!
If you're needing some inspiration for your grand If you're needing some inspiration for your grand exit, look no further than Tallen & Madison's wedding a few years ago at Three Strands Farm! Want to know five of my top wedding planning tips? Want to know five of my top wedding planning tips?? ⤵️ 1) Time your hair & makeup trial runs so you know how much space to give them in the wedding day timeline. Then, add some buffer time in, just in case!! 2) Prep a mock-up of a reception table, and then take an overhead photo of it. Pop it into Instagram stories and put some labels on it, then save and print for your setup/cleanup crew. (This is especially helpful if you’re using a mixture of rented, borrowed, and purchased items!) 3) If the comb in your veil just isn’t working with your hairstyle, take that puppy out and replace it with some loops. Then use bobby pins to hook through the loops and secure to your head! 4) Kiss sloooowwwwlllllyyyy after you’re pronounced husband & wife! If y’all just give each other a peck, it will be hard to capture on camera. You don’t need to have a full on make-out session, but a nice 5 second kiss never hurt anybody. 5) Toss some vitamin C/Emergen-C and other vitamins into your honeymoon bags. And start dosing up a week or two before the wedding! Make sure to save this post to reference again during your wedding planning process!
