Derrick & Kameron // Anniversary Session in Shenandoah National Park

The wind gently teased Kameron’s hair as she snuggled up against her husband and the evening sunlight slanted across the hills of Shenandoah National Park. Derrick & Kameron celebrated five years of marriage in May, and wanted to celebrate with some portraits in their original wedding clothes. When they heard I was going to be on the East coast, they immediately booked me for an anniversary session in Shenandoah National Park!

This was the second time I photographed Derrick & Kameron, the first being last summer while they were on a road trip. We met down at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon for a couple’s session, and every moment we had together was absolutely perfect! (Despite the thunderstorm we had to outrun!)

We didn’t have to outrun any thunderstorms this time, but we did have to keep an eye out for copperheads and rattlesnakes. Yikes! Thank goodness we didn’t see any, especially since both Kameron and I are deathly afraid of snakes. (Y’all, the East coast is great and all, but between the snakes, mosquitoes, ticks, cockroaches, and humidity, I think I’ll stick with the West coast!!)

This was the first time any of us had been in Shenandoah National Park, but I am hoping that it won’t be the last! It’s a different beauty than what we have out here on the West coast, but still so incredibly gorgeous.

And when that sun sank down below the hills and bathed everything in pinks and oranges? Wow. Absolutely no words do it justice.

Derrick & Kameron, thank you SO much for trusting me (yet again) to capture part of your story. Your anniversary session in Shenandoah National Park was a truly a DREAM. I’m so honored by the time you spent traveling to have these photos done, and the faith you put in me and my work. Love you guys forever and ever, and cannot wait for our next session together!!
