Samuel // A Patriotic First Birthday Cake Smash

This Patriotic cake smash for this little guy’s first birthday was a first for me! It’s been so fun to push myself out of my comfort zone and photograph things other than couples + weddings this summer. Samuel is my cousin’s son, and we took the photos in front of one of the barns on my grandparent’s property, which made everything just that much more special.

The Patriotic cake was made by a good friend, Mayzie Strubhar. She’s started a little side hobby of baking and decorating cakes + cupcakes, but this is the first time I’ve been able to photograph her creations. Ya’ll need to hire her so I can do this more often! Her creations are so incredible, and I’m seriously excited to watch her grow in this!! Go check her out on Instagram here.

But back to the star of the show! Samuel turned one at the beginning of July, and since his daddy is a United States Marine, this Patriotic cake smash was the perfect way to celebrate. I haven’t been able to be around this lil guy too much, since they live on the east coast. But having him + his mama here (mainly for his auntie’s wedding earlier this month, but also to visit family + friends) has been so fun! It’s been weird to watch my cousins grow up, get married, and have babies, but it’s also been super incredible. It’s even more fun when I get to photograph them!!

(Take a walk down memory lane to Samuel’s parent’s wedding, couple’s session, anniversary session, and maternity session!)

Happy 1st birthday, Samuel!! I pray you grow up to love Jesus and to serve Him with your whole life. I love you! Love, sort-of-cousin Rebekah.
