My Top 5 Engagement Session Locations in Oregon

engagement session location - bend, oregon

It’s hard to go wrong when picking an engagement session location in Oregon. There’s so much natural beauty everywhere you look, plus there are a ton of options for different terrain! It’s no secret that I LOVE epic scenery and going on adventures with my couples. I find nature soooo therapeutic, and being able to frolic around with my couples and take epic pictures in epic places? It’s like the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae.

As the John Muir quote goes, “And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”

Mary’s Peak

We’re starting off with a classic here! Mary’s Peak is probably my all-time favorite location purely for the EPIC views. You never know *quite* what kind of weather you’re going to get up there, but that’s part of what makes it so fun! There’s a little bit of a walk to get from the parking lot to the top, but I promise, it’s worth it. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Pacific Ocean! (See my favorite Mary’s Peak session here. Also, if a 7-month pregnant lady can survive the walk, you most definitely can.)

Cape Kiwanda

Another classic, this time on the coastline. From stunning views on top of the dune, to the huge boulders, to the miles of sandy beach, Cape Kiwanda offers countless beautiful spots. I love that Cape Kiwanda isn’t just a beach, though. There’s so much variety that you really can’t get tired of it! (See a beautiful Cape Kiwanda anniversary session here.)

Rowena Crest/Tom McCall Preserve

I’ve only been up to Rowena Crest/Tom McCall Preserve once, but I definitely have it on my must-visit-more-often list. You’ve got some of that more Central Oregon terrain happening, plus, unobstructed views of the Columbia River Gorge. If you park at the Rowena Crest Viewpoint parking lot, it’s only a few minutes easy walk to the Preserve and epic landscapes. 100% recommend! (See a styled bridal session at Rowena Crest here.)

Smith Rock

Okay, I know everybody and their brother frequents this place. But if you’ve ever been there, you know why. The wild beauty of Smith Rock is hard to match, and when that evening light filters past the rocks? Um, WOW. You don’t have to hike in very far at all for epic views, in fact, some of the most epic and classic views are right off the parking lot. Speaking of parking, the lots fill up FAST and an empty spot can be hard to find. Make sure to allow plenty of time, and carpool if possible. (See an epic Smith Rock proposal here.)

Sparks Lake

We’re going to finish up with my other all-time favorite location. It’s hard to beat the combination of lake and mountain scenery, especially when that evening light hits the mountains and lights them on fire! No matter which way you turn, you’re going to have a beautiful backdrop. The one problem with Sparks Lake? It’s not close enough to my house. (See my favorite Sparks Lake session here.)
