Micajah & Irina // Day After Adventure Session at God’s Thumb

by Rebekah · Leave a Comment

God's Thumb Wedding Photo Session

It was the day after Micajah & Irina’s intimate wedding on the beach, and even the birds were still in bed. But Micajah, Irina, and I were trekking through the forest with only headlamps to light our way. Pretty soon we broke out into an open meadow, and we could see the outline of God’s Thumb ahead of us. Even in the dark, it was beautiful. We walked through the beachgrass, up to a narrow trail that led to a dirt staircase of sorts. I panted my way to the top, and then turned around for a view of the night lights of Lincoln City. We could even see a little bit of the coastline stretching out in the darkness before us.

“Wow, God.” I thought.

It’s not super often that I’m on top of a mountain in the dark, but there’s a different kind of beauty that haunts you when all you can see are shapes and varying shades of gray.

The sky gradually began to lighten, and eventually, Micajah & Irina changed into their wedding clothes. We didn’t end up getting a sunny sunrise, but it was still absolutely beautiful. The feeling of being on top of a mountain, with a couple who is overflowing with love, overlooking the ocean, MAN. It’s one of those feelings you can try to explain but really and truly has no explanation.

Micajah & Irina, you guys have been SUCH a joy to work with. From your engagement session, to your elopement day, to this day after adventure session, gosh. We’ve gone on some pretty rad adventures together, and I’ve loved every moment of them. I pray that the Lord bless you in your marriage, and that you would grow closer to Him as you grow closer together!

Ooooh the things you can do with a long veil! Ad Ooooh the things you can do with a long veil! Adding any veil to your ensemble gives everything a touch of soft romance. But if your veil is waltz length or longer, we're able to create some really and truly magical images.  Are you a long veil, short veil, or no veil kind of bride?
When deciding on a location for your couples or en When deciding on a location for your couples or engagement session, remember that you don't always have to hike miles for great views. That's of course always an option (and personally, I LOVE those adventurous shoots!) but sometimes, great views can be obtained just a few steps away from your car. For example, this photo was taken in #mountrainiernationalpark maybe 100 yards away from where we parked! Tell me...are you the type that would rather hike a few miles, or walk a few hundred yards for stellar views??
I have to know...did you make any New Year's resol I have to know...did you make any New Year's resolutions this year? Or if that's not your jam, did you pick a word for the year? Personally, I did neither. I'm not a big "resolutions" type of person. I generally set some goals at the start of a new year, and I also pick out a word that I want to live by during the upcoming year. But this year? I really didn't do either. I think after 2020, and especially the way it ended for me, I just felt exhausted and unable to think toward what the coming year might bring. I did set one small goal of reading one book a month this year (and I've already completed January's and am going to start on another!) but other than that? Nada. Maybe in February I'll set some goals or pick a word. But for now? The words I am living by are these: Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:30-31)
If you could label this photo with one word...what If you could label this photo with one word...what would it be? I think my word would be enchanting. ✨💫

All my wedding couples get a complimentary engagem All my wedding couples get a complimentary engagement shoot with me. It’s a selfish freebie, if I’m honest. It gives us a chance to get to know each other so when your wedding day arrives you can relax knowing I know your best angles, your love story, and the little things you care so much about. Worried about posing or feeling awkward in front of the camera? A few minutes with me and that fear will quickly disappear.
I just started a new workout program this week and I just started a new workout program this week and BOY HOWDY is my body feeling it. I typically workout 2-3 times a week and have been pretty consistent with that the last few years, but this new program is working muscles I didn't even know I had!! But wow it feels so good, and the knowledge that it's preparing me to better serve my clients is the cherry on top. How is it going to help me better serve my clients, you might ask? Well, for starters, a lot of my sessions (especially the adventure ones!!) include some sort of a hike. And when I am doing multiple sessions every week, hiking even just a few miles adds up. Not to mention how much energy goes into a wedding day! If you've never stayed on your feet for 8 hours straight while carrying two 5-10 pound weights strapped to your shoulders, and then repeatedly lifting those weights up to eye level...well, give it a try sometime. 😜 Photographers, what other ways do you prepare yourself during the "off-season" for those hectic summer months?
Hey sweet girl, I just want to let you know... If Hey sweet girl, I just want to let you know... If you and your man argue or fight on the way to your session...you’re not alone. If you have a meltdown five minutes before getting in the car because your hair won’t do what you want it to...you’re not alone. If you worry that your man won’t look happy in the photos cause he really isn’t a fan of photos even though he’s honestly a really nice guy...you’re not alone. If you’re struggling during your session with body image and a zit that showed up this morning...you’re not alone. If you throw your hands up and say “maybe we just shouldn’t do it” right before walking out the door...you’re not alone. If you’re not feeling in a lovey-dovey mood the day of your session because *SOMEONE* didn’t pick up his socks again...you’re not alone. Without reveling to many marital secrets, I gotta tell you that between most and all of the above things have happened to me the day of a photo session with my husband. It doesn’t mean that we have a bad marriage or that we should postpone the session, it means that we’re normal human beings under a little bit of stress. My job (and one that I love) as your photographer is to help alleviate that stress and help you both relax and even enjoy the time in front of the camera. Your job? Breathe. Take a few deep breaths, focus on the GOOD, and let me do the rest. I promise that even bad days can turn into beautiful photos and memories. 🖤
